About Us

What is the time commitment involved with Club Soccer?
Club Soccer is a serious time commitment. If you make the team, you are expected to be at every game, practice, and fundraiser, unless you have a conflict such as class or an exam. That being said, club will not take up nearly as much time as a varsity team would – we typically practice 3-4 times each week, with 1-2 games per weekend during the Fall. The commitment is similar to a varsity or club team in high school.

Which other teams do you play? What is the travel like?
Our competition consists of other club squads from around the Midwest. During our regular season, we play mostly other teams from Ohio (e.g. Cincinnati, Dayton, OU, Bowling Green, Wright State, etc.). At Regionals, the competition is expanded to 6 states across the Midwest, and at Nationals, teams can come from anywhere in the U.S. In the last few years, competition from outside of Ohio has included Texas A&M, San Diego State, Virginia Tech, Auburn, UC-Santa Barbara, Michigan State, Penn State, etc.

The Region III Tournament is held each year in Indianapolis, IN. The NIRSA National Championships often change location; in 2013, they were held in Phoenix, AZ, but in 2014 were held in Memphis, TN.

Can I try out for the OSU varsity team if I’m on the club team?
Club players have the opportunity to try out for the varsity team during the Winter; this has allowed several of our players to make the OSU varsity spring team, and occasionally the fall varsity roster.

What are the costs of playing Club Soccer?
Team dues, paid at the beginning of the fall season, typically range between $150-$350, depending on the level of fundraising done by each player over the previous year. Dues include everything you’ll need throughout the season except your own equipment and transportation to and from Nationals.

Why should I play Club Soccer?
If you have played at a high level prior to college, but aren’t looking for the commitment or stress associated with a collegiate varsity team, consider playing club soccer. We offer a serious but fun environment to grow as a player, and the chance to compete on a national level. Our players come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, and the average skill level of players on our team is very high. We regularly defeat varsity teams from the NCAA Division III ranks, and aim to contend for Regional and National Championships every year.

How do I join/when are tryouts?
Tryouts are held during move-in week in the Fall, at the turf fields between Lincoln Tower and the RPAC. Check our Twitter feed, Facebook page, or this website in early August for exact dates and times. Your $20 tryout fee guarantees 2 days of evaluation; a 3rd day of final cuts will be necessary for those who we feel have the best shot at making the team.

Are you in a conference?
Yes. We are a member of the Midwest Alliance Soccer Conference, which consists of 44 club soccer teams from across the Midwest. The MASC website is listed under the “Links” tab on this website. Our regular season schedule consists of 10 league games against other teams in the MASC’s Eastern Division. From there, we may advance to the MASC Regional Tournament, held in Indianapolis in late October.

How good is the team?
We annually contend for the NIRSA National Championship, winning the National title in 2014 and making it to the final four 5 times. We have won Conference and Midwest Regional Championships 7 times. We consider ourselves the premier club soccer program in the Midwest and a top program in the United States. For a somewhat complete history of the program, see the “History” tab at the top.

What is NIRSA?
NIRSA is the governing body for collegiate recreational and club sports, similar to the NCAA (but for club competition). The NIRSA National Championships determine the National Champion in club soccer each year.
